February 12, 1920 - September 20, 2021
Hazel, also lovingly known as “Tee” to family and close friends, was born as Hazel Jackson to Paul Jackson and Lena Pool on February 12, 1920 in Port Arthur Louisiana. Early in life, she unfortunately lost both of her parents. She and her brother Paul Fred were subsequently relocated to Diboll TX, and raised by their great-aunt Elizabeth Fred. Hazel attended both primary and secondary school in Diboll TX, graduating high school in 1937. Afterwards, both she and her brother decided to pursue brighter horizons and seek new opportunities in California. She made San Bernardino her new home and began working as a domestic steward. It wasn’t long before she met her husband to be – Augusta H. Williams or “William” as she called him. They were wed in 1953 and she became Hazel Williams. She and William eventually moved into the home he and his brother Jake built by hand over several years. She lived in this house for over sixty years. This home became a favorite stop for friends and family for decades. It was also less than a mile from her brother Paul’s home. She enjoyed visits from Paul’s daughter Pauline and her seven children, who adored their great Aunt Tee. This home is where Hazel honed her culinary skills and became an exceptional cook. It is where she toiled at her sewing machine over the years and became quite a talented seamstress, often displaying her creations at local fashion shows. Having come to the Lord early in life, Hazel joined several local churches prior to becoming one of the founding members of her beloved Bethesda House of Mercy Christian Fellowship in October 1979. She also became a member of Bethesda’s Mothers’ Board in addition to the church choir, as she loved to sing praises to the Lord. On Monday, September 20, 2021, The Lord called Hazel home. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her niece Pauline, husband William, and brother Paul. She is survived by great nieces Lenora Tsegga and Paula Coleman, as well as great nephews James, Jerry, Dennis, and Paul Sommerville as well as a host of great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, in addition to many friends.
